Pay of the military personnel of the Imperial Japanese Army, 1945 (in Japanese Yen)

At December 1941, 1 yen was approximately equivalent to 23 US cents (0,23 US dollar) and 1 shilling and 2 pence (British).

Pay to both officers and enlisted personnel varies according to the length of service within each grade (two to four pay classes).

Extra pay is also granted to technicians and bandsmen; warrant and noncommissioned officers in the Military police; and personnel employed as interpreters.

Note, that Sakhalin and Chishima (Kurile) Islands were not considered overseas territories and personnel, serving there, received no overseas pay.

Officers are usually paid in the last 10 days of each month, and other ranks every 10 days. Before going into the field 10 days’ pay or more may be advanced.
