IJN weapons' prices

Huge cost of IJN warships can easily explain huge prewar naval bedgets.

Before the Pacific War average exchange rate of Japanese yen to US dollar was 3,6 yen to 1 dollar.

Rough value of the yen before the Pacific War to 21-century yen is 1 to 800.

Prices of some IJN weapons (in Japanese yen)

"Yamato"-class battleship (completed 1941) = 147 700 000

"Shokaku"-class aircraft carrier (completed 1941) = 101 175 000 (including the cost of the air group)

"Myoko"-class cruiser (completed 1929) = 24 000 000

"Agano"-class cruiser (completed 1943) =  26 400 000
